The nonplusultra of British Pop Rock ever, nothing more to say.
The Beatles: Revolver

Everything is fantastic, almost magical: a vaguely melancholic cover, tracks ranging from music hall to McCartney's baroque pop, to Lennon’s essential rock and psychedelia, lyrics full of references to drugs and death; Scaruffi’s nonsense, this is purely genius.

In my opinion, the band's best album, it can be devoured in one bite by the sergeant. The best Beatles along with Abbey Road.

The White Album, as far as I'm concerned, can't be beaten :)

Revolver is the true magical beginning of the band, opening the doors to new types of musical techniques and effects. "Tomorrow Never Knows" is a cornerstone of psychedelia from '66, and that's no small feat!

@[Alemisso] I consider the period starting from the previous "Rubber Soul" as the best, "the true beginning," of the Beatles; in my opinion, there's a significant change in the atmospheres (Norwegian wood, Nowhere man, etc.), and then certainly with this, they pushed the boundaries of their music even further.

@[madcat] yes, Rubber Soul is no less, but some songs still show a style that is actually similar to that of the previous albums (Help foremost). But there are songs, like the ones you mentioned, and the beautiful "In My Life" that truly make it a unique album and a sort of "introduction" to everything the Beatles will offer from then on.

The problem with the Beatles is that from Rubber Soul onwards, every album has fantastic songs (fantastic!!!) and others that are definitely not... I've been studying their definitive anthology for ages, and I'd say it's the most beautiful album of all time...

It's my favorite maybe of the Beatles, "Bird Can Sing." I love it with that beautiful Gretsch riff that makes you want to change the strings.

For me, the turning point that will shape the musical landscape of the era happens with Rubber Soul. If we think that just two years earlier they were singing "Love Me Do." Amidst television appearances, world tours, and various commitments, it's inconceivable how much they managed to accomplish in such a short time. If "Rubber Soul" pushed Brian Wilson to create "Pet Sounds," the latter inspired McCartney to make "Sgt. Pepper." It's no coincidence that the Beach Boys abandoned "Smile" after hearing it. The Byrds even surrendered before that. "Revolver" is the link between the excellent prototype and the sublime. The drumming is great, the bass lines, the soundscapes, the effects. And what about Eleanor Rigby? Try to imagine Rain inserted into some free groove of Revolver. However, in my opinion, Sergeant Pepper is an oracle.

@[enbar77] exactly! That was what I was trying to say above. And the wonderful "Rain" (but also "Paperback Writer") would have fit perfectly on Revolver, even though I console myself thinking they brought out a Magical Mystery Tour 2 in "Past masters vol 2" :)
