Death: Symbolic
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
In my opinion, the best Death Metal album of all time. There's not a single note out of place, and each member of the band enriches a perfect, innovative, and never tiring songwriting with precious technical skills.

Do you think I like Death? Jokes aside, "Symbolic" is my second favorite album by Death, because above it remains, and will forever remain, "Human"...34 crazy minutes, technically unattainable. Last November, I went to Romagnano Sesia to see Death to All, with Masvidal, Reinert, and DiGiorgio; if you're interested, my concert review has been published on the "Metallus" website. And then Chuck was my fellow inductee... Flattening of emotion...

Hehe, for me it's the opposite, Symbolic is the best and Human is second (along with The Sound Of Perseverance). I simply appreciate their works that are even closer to Technical Death Metal more, even if it's hard to make comparisons when talking about masterpieces. I would have liked to go to Romagnano Sesia too, but I had just bought tickets for Lamb of God and I preferred to pass; in any case, I’ll go read your review of the event. I recommend, if you haven't already, to read Schuldiner's bio that just came out under Tsunami Editori, "Death by Metal." It's really well written and full of interesting information that I didn't know.

Interesting reading that I will try to get my hands on. In any case, I don’t throw anything away from Death... I remember back when Spiritual Healing came out, I was one of the few "metalhead" friends who appreciated it right away; when "Human" arrived the following year, you can imagine the bomb effect it had on us poor listeners... there was no internet, just cassette tapes that you might not have even seen.... I saw Chuck live twice.... terrifying...

I used to prefer Symbolic too, but Human is the best, the right balance between what they did before and what came after.
Fair to Midland: Arrows & Anchors
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Arrows & Anchors is a thoroughly complete and decidedly memorable album, not at all repetitive, easy on the ears but difficult to grasp. At the first listen, it manages to leave the listener both bewildered and transported to another universe, as only Fair to Midland can. Listen to it without any prejudice, because it’s a true gem that can stand toe-to-toe with their previous masterpiece (though it may remain slightly inferior).
Lamb of God: Ashes of the Wake
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Ashes of the Wake is a piece of history in modern metal, drawing post-Thrash influences from the 90s Pantera and seasoning them with vocals in full Metalcore style. In the 48 minutes of this album, one can hear a clear evolution compared to the earlier works of Lamb, which were much more bland. However, there is a slight sense of lacking a slower track to break up the continuous aggression of the quintet.

As far as I'm concerned, the worst metal band I've ever heard. A bunch of wannabes making plastic records.
Megadeth: Youthanasia
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
With Youthanasia, Megadeth demonstrate their ability to produce excellent albums without recycling the formula that brought them success. The Thrash foundation is complemented by influences that even approach Hard Rock and classic Heavy Metal, but the result is much more commendable compared to Countdown to Extinction, thanks to more varied and inspired sections.
Megadeth: Rust In Peace
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Rust in Peace is the only true masterpiece by Megadeth. An incredibly technical album with exceptional songwriting, filled with never-banal virtuosities (excellent performance by all band members, by the way) accompanied by constantly aggressive rhythms, just as the band had already accustomed us to in previous works. It can be said that Dave has finally managed to reach the level that the much-envied Metallica had achieved with the famous Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.
Metallica: St.Anger
CD Audio I have it ★★
In 2003, Metallica was going through a tough time, and it had been too long since we heard a good album from them. Thus, St. Anger was released, their worst work. After three uninspired yet decent tracks, the rest of the platter is of absolute emptiness, and everything feels even more boring due to the absence of any solos and even less enjoyable because of a recording quality that is at times unacceptable.
Among the names of the '90s Indie Rock Underground scene, the Neutral Milk Hotel stands out, releasing In the Aeroplane Over the Sea towards the end of the decade. It is a simple yet richly layered work that employs Lo-Fi and Grunge inspirations to captivate the listener, all tied together with the excellent vocals of dear Jeff. The result is the manifesto of the genre, an album to be listened to in peace, allowing oneself to be carried away on the plane.
Nuclear Assault: Game Over
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
A scratching and hammering disc, even if inferior to Handle With Care and Survive. The debut album by Nuclear Assault boasts a distinctly recognizable sound, where hardcore punk influences are more pronounced compared to what will happen in later works. Hang the Pope!
Nuclear Assault: Handle With Care
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Together with Game Over and Survive, it forms a triad that perfectly represents the wild thrashers' way of being, managing, despite this, to remain varied and not repetitive for the listener. 35 minutes in which Nuclear Assault shift from grindcore to funky, traversing simple tracks and more complex ones, always maintaining a very high quality throughout the platter.
Opeth: Blackwater park
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Among all the magnificent releases by Opeth, Blackwater Park remains my favorite. It's incredible how they manage to make a genre like Death Metal so complex and psychedelic, even better than Gojira would in the years to come. I can't say anything else but: Listen to it!

Hello Orla; great band Opeth here remembered in one of their best albums. I didn’t quite understand your reference to the psychedelia associated with Death Metal; as for the Swedish psychedelic group, they have nothing. Perhaps you meant progressive? Just wanted to clarify, nothing more.
Slayer: Reign in blood
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
One of the most important Thrash albums of all time, capable of summarizing the strengths of the genre in half an hour.

You're not wrong, I registered today and I still haven't quite figured out how to use the site, although I managed to send a review (which hasn't been accepted yet btw) :)
Nice profile picture, by the way, long live the Death :D

So welcome to this crazy yet fun world... The Death remains, in my opinion, among the greatest of their genre. As for Slayer, unfortunately, I fear that Hanneman's death is a blow that's hard to recover from... and I consider Lombardo to be one of a kind as a drummer, even though Bostaph is an inhuman machine.

Indeed, right now Slayer are worth half of what they were a year ago; part of me hopes they stop making music, but the other part is happy because this summer I’ll go see them live for the second time...

I've lost count... it should be eight; the last time was around ten years ago, while the first concerts date back to the early nineties. The best will forever remain the show in Milan at Palavobis in 1994, with Machine Head opening... I literally broke into pieces from the furious pogo.

Oh, unfortunately I’m young; I wasn't even born in 1994... I saw them in 2011 at the Big Four in Rho, nothing short of fabulous. By the way, I think Holt is perfect as the guitarist for Slayer, even though I would be sad if he left Exodus.

Nothing to say about Holt as a guitarist... but for the "old" hands like me, that spot will always be Jeff's... and I’ll stop here before I shed a tear... of blood. Of course, their violence in music during concerts still has no equal... and I’m saying this as someone who has seen it all in the metal scene... After all, I'm now 47 years old.

I specify that I was only evaluating Holt from a technical standpoint; I don’t deny that Hanneman was better in many other respects, including compositional. Slayer live are still as brutal as few, it's true, but if they were to release new material, I fear it would sound like a cover band of themselves...
System Of A Down: System Of A Down
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Slightly inferior to Toxicity, but still an innovative album at the time of its release. Among the atypical rhythms of Mind and the melodies of Spiders, the self-titled album definitely hides the most underrated System of a Down, and it's a real shame that many only know Sugar from this album.

The only one from SOAD that I liked.
System Of A Down: Toxicity
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Great album, the best by System of a Down. Energetic and engaging from start to finish, it made me passionate about the band even though I don’t appreciate the genre that much. However, in my opinion, it doesn’t deserve the 5 stars; there’s still something missing, maybe it’s the songwriting being too simple, I’m not sure.
Tool: Lateralus
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
One of my favorite albums. It's incredibly difficult to describe it in just a few lines, but the fact remains that Lateralus is such a complex and varied album that understanding it requires much more than a few listens. It's a meticulously crafted work that offers us brilliant gems showcasing the genius of Tool (the connection to Fibonacci) without getting lost in too many unnecessary interludes like unfortunately happened with Aenima. The result is the essence of the band, a masterpiece that even surpasses the p
