Visceral, melancholic, and inspired. Amidst this feast for the senses shines "New York Serenade," a gem destined for eternity.

In the long run, it's him who stands out the most to my ears from his discography, alongside Nebraska and Tom Joad.

Amazing album. The versatility of this man in the first seven albums is astonishing: seven records, each one different from the other.

without beating around the bush, always my favorite from the Boss. But I've already said it so many times that I seem to be suffering from senile dementia.

I know it by heart now, my favorite from the Boss of the 70s. Wild Billy and NY Serenade are the main jewels of a superb album.

I only like the opening; I find the rest boring.

Yes, O Fortuna is the best moment. For the rest, it doesn't even seem like a work from the 20th century... at least compared to all the other composers I know.

If you really like it, I recommend the best version, that of Eugen Jochum. Psycho, of course, it seems clear to me that Orff wanted to give an ancient tone to the work (he uses Latin, except in 2) being drawn from medieval poems.

Hi muffin, it actually seems to me more like a work from the 19th century, while I only perceive antiquity in the text. In this sense, I was saying that it doesn't seem like a 20th-century author to me. However, I only know this work, and to give a judgment I would need to listen to other works by Orff.

Hi Psyco, I only know this one by Orff as well, but it seems to me to evoke more Renaissance atmospheres than those of the 19th century. Moreover, the fact that a strong emphasis is placed on rhythm rather than harmony and melody makes it more comparable to a search like that of Stravinsky than to musicians of the 1800s.

There are songs destined for eternity (like Meet on the Ledge, Book Song, Tale in Hard Time, and especially Fotheringay), songs masterfully interpreted by others (Eastern Rain and I'll Keep it With Mine), and finally, there is already great ease in "handling" the traditionals ("Nottamun Town" first and foremost). 5 stars without hesitation.

Another marvel of the "dear Saxon"; to which I assign no rating because assigning a rating means confining the quality of a work, and this is not music meant to be confined.

Yeah, with the Chair Record there are few editions and they're all a mess. As soon as I found it (different cover), I didn't think twice and grabbed it along with the first one. Moanin for the Soul Jam 2012 Chair HooDoo 2014.

A wonderful (and deeply felt) album from 1965, which also deserves credit for having anticipated so much, so much subsequent singer-songwriter music. "Milk and Honey" and "I Want To Be Alone" are worth the so-called ticket price.
