Happy the Man: Happy the Man

The American Progressive? It arrives late, doesn't create scenes, doesn't sell records or dispense commentary. It's just the music that speaks, more emotional than ever, driven by an imaginative technique that dispels any pretentiousness. An album that illuminates every listen, every moment of sonic delight for refined tastes.

Curious, I search for them. Lately, I've been getting into prog bands from the outskirts.. I've just discovered Kaipa, Swedish (with songs sung in Swedish) from the early 70s. An extraordinary prog band, for me, and immediately entered my personal prog Olympus.

Excellent Kaipa, featuring a very young Roine Stolt, long before his fame with The Flower Kings. The Scandinavian Prog scene was and remains incredibly rich, while the American scene has always struggled to find its place in the market. The two albums by Happy The Man were a kind of white fly in the rich catalog of a major US label, Arista, which didn’t know what to do with a band of such caliber.

Great musical personality and refinement. It’s also worth mentioning the Cartoon, even if with a more intricate proposal. And finally, I would gladly recall that a RIO scene does exist in the USA; it’s limited to a few musicians, but it is a force.

I don't know any of these people, not even from the American RIO, and of Nordic prog bands, I only know the Finnish Wigwam, who are pretty cool. Damn it.

The mega Disco-Funk-Band of the author of Off The Wall, Rock With You, and Thriller, just to name a few: much of the sound of the King of Pop is born in these grooves, Rod Temperton and his interracial British collective, but not too much, at their best. The mystical charm of The Star of a Story stands tall like a beacon, and Quincy Jones and George Benson will give it even more shine. Spectacular disco.

The ghost ship of rock.
Hoelderlin: Hölderlin's Traum
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
The tree of life in Continental Acid Folk, a vivid and stern Teutonic link between the Canterbury scene of Spirogyra and the baroque Neapolitan school of Saint Just. If I had been 18 in 1970, I would have wanted to record an album like this, only to disappear afterward.
