The Rock Matrix is much more pronounced than the Jazz one, but stuff like this had never been heard in Italy in '72 (neither Area nor Napoli Centrale existed yet). "Grandangolo" and the drum solo in "36° Parallelo" are worth the price of admission. From 1972 to 1976, they deserve the highest praise, unbeatable.

Folk, Jazz-Fusion, Progressive, Psychedelia, and the Rock Influences of the already beautiful debut blend magically in this magnificent musical tableau. A total record, astonishing and completely revolutionary for its time, in Italy. An absolute peak, complemented by an equally beautiful cover. 9.

With two amazing albums behind them, the fantastic Roman quintet surpasses themselves once again in this third magnificent work: fluid and expansive Jazz-Fusion, filled with ethereal and dreamy atmospheres, enriched by the splendid use of the synth (see the title track). An album of true maturity, now completely devoid of the Rock influences of their early days. 8.5.
Peter Gabriel: Peter Gabriel (Security)

Second absolute masterpiece as well as a milestone in world music, two years after the previous one. The peak of the eighties. Featuring a great guest in the choruses, the poet Peter Hammill, leader of VDGG. Shock the five!

Peter Gabriel, Robert Fripp, Tony Levin, and Roy Bittan on the same album is something beyond human. We are more or less on the same wavelength as the previous record, but this time the standout tracks are the energetic opener "On the Air," the poignant ballad by Jill Moore "Mother Of Silence," and Fripp's experimentalism in "Exposure."

Peter Gabriel: Peter Gabriel (Car)
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
First album for our solo Peter, already a superb showcase: driven particularly by the nostalgic ballad "Solsbury Hill," the sweet pseudo-progressive "Humdrum," and the apocalyptic pronouncements of "Here Comes The Flood."
Peter Gabriel: Peter Gabriel (melt)
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
After two stunning albums, the first absolute masterpiece of Peter arrives. A milestone of the entire 80s, as well as the first world music album from our artist, it features the presence of Robert Fripp and Phil Collins on guitar and drums respectively, along with the ever-loyal Tony Levin. The beautiful voice of Kate Bush crowns it all, even with a splendid duet in "Games Without Frontiers."
  • hjhhjij
    9 nov 12
It seems a bit bold to say it's a word-music album :) Influences of this kind are beginning to emerge (though not too strongly) and will become more pronounced in "IV," then completely absent in "So," where they reappear at the end (In Your Eyes) and explode in Passion. But there’s little of that here. Of course, we agree, it’s a masterpiece.
Peter Gabriel: UP
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
A great record, very polished and minimalist. Notable are the Crimsonian march of "Darkness," the gospel of "Sky Blue," the Beatles-esque "My Head Sounds Like That," the piano-driven "The Drop," and the frenzy of "Signal To Noise."
Peter Gabriel: So
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Setting aside the tribal outbursts, our chameleon dives into a superb melodic pop with great impact. The standout tracks are particularly the superb "Red Rain," the 50s dance miniaturist "Sledgehammer," the moving duet with Kate Bush in "Don't Give Up," the touching "Mercy Street," and the love ode "In Your Eyes."

CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The duets with Sinead O'Connor in "Come Talk To Me" and "Blood Of Eden" are very beautiful; noteworthy is also the presence of Brian Eno ("Love to be Loved"), John Paul Jones ("Fourteen Black Paintings"), and Peter Hammill ("Digging in the Dirt").
Peter Gabriel: New Blood
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Second album with the orchestra, this one is excellent too. Of course, it would have been better to have an album of unreleased tracks, but I particularly like New Blood. The version of "Wallflower" probably surpasses even the original.
Peter Hammill: Nadir's Big Chance
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
A fundamental album for the development of English Punk, to the point that John Lydon cites it as one of his biggest influences (the intro of "Birthday Special" will be copied for "Anarchy in U.K."). A masterpiece from the very start: the first four tracks are incredibly intense, incendiary, and fucking punk. But Her Majesty also gives us a considerable number of beautiful ballads, among which "Been Alone So Long" and "Airport" stand out. Of course, the VDGG are in full force.

Even PUNK? HAMMILL?? As much as I respect the man, I see him at the antipodes of Punk. I've listened to little of Hammill's solo work, and it didn't really impress me, but this album I like a lot... though I hear very little of Punk in it XD

I think the opposite of Silas: among the many great albums (some, to be fair, are masterpieces and I’m particularly referring to "Silent..." and "Over") by Hammill in the '70s, this is one that has "left" me the least. Pier Paolo Pasolini: Accattone
DVD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Formidable debut work of one of the greatest minds of 20th-century Italy, a grandiose adaptation of the stories of the Roman underclass found in his books ("Una vita violenta" is a masterpiece in this regard). Poetry, textbook black-and-white shots, and a tremendous performance by Franco Citti complete the picture. 9.
Pier Paolo Pasolini: Mamma Roma
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Second masterpiece for the director from Friuli, following the trail of his splendid debut concerning themes (the desire for redemption of the urban underclass, etc.), but already revealing a greater maturity. And then there’s a sumptuous Anna Magnani, in one of her many stunning performances, along with breathtaking shots, complete with explicit tributes to 15th-century painting (the image of dying Hector was modeled on Mantegna's "Dead Christ"). 9.5.

I don't understand a thing about cinema (an art that I consider inferior and that interests me very little: it's already quite something if I watch a dozen movies a year), but this film can't help but be appreciated. Magnani, without a doubt, the greatest Italian actress of all time, a Titan.

It’s a beautiful film, but remember that Pasolini said multiple times he was not at all satisfied with Magnani’s performance, too petty-bourgeois in his view... I don’t agree that it’s more mature than "Accattone", especially because, fortunately, Pasolini was never mature... Anyway, I’m glad that someone points out his films...

    Mama Rome masterpiece.
PS: Kurosawa said: “Cinema encompasses many other arts; just as it has its own characteristics of literature, it equally possesses traits of theater, a philosophical aspect, and attributes inspired by painting, sculpture, and music.” and thank goodness there are still those who consider cinema a MINOR art.

It's a personal matter. Music and literature have "given" me so much more than cinema (then, from an objective standpoint, it must be said that cinema is much younger than the other arts... painting has evolved from cave paintings to Caravaggio... the centuries will tell whether cinema will be able to evolve or not...)
Pier Paolo Pasolini: Il Vangelo Secondo Matteo
DVD Video I have it ★★★★★
Probably the highest masterpiece of Pasolini's early phase (61'-66'), tremendously militant and religious at the same time, with an extraordinarily evocative power. Although the themes addressed are different from those in the previous two films, the stylistic elements that characterized our production so far remain (close-ups, references to medieval sculpture, etc.).

Pink Floyd: A Momentary Lapse of Reason
CD Audio I have it ★★★
An album that, without all those plastic and pompous arrangements, could have easily been rated 4 stars, but in the end, it boils down to simple and somewhat predictable electronic pop-rock. Two tracks save the day: "On the Turning Away" and "Sorrow". Their worst, just barely sufficient.
  • orange77

Learning to Fly is worth the price of the album. One Sleep is a pop masterpiece. On the Turning Away is Pink Floyd at 100%. Sorrow is Gilmour at his best. It deserves a reevaluation; I find it beautiful. And also innovative in several ways.

It's definitely not a Pink Floyd album, but a great solo album by Roger Waters. It may be paranoid, dull, and too conceptual, but I'm infinitely attached to it. And when "The Gunner's Dream" starts, a tear always falls. Maggie, what have we done?

It may not be a masterpiece, it may not be innovative, but it is an album steeped in nostalgia and very inspired (played by great musicians, among other things). x Karter4. Well, I admit it. Over the years, I've learned to appreciate the simpler things. I've seen "A momentary" come to life, so I'm attached to it. But aside from that, I consider it a much less trivial album than "Division." I have about 90 Pink Floyd bootlegs, half of which are from their founder. I "come from" Piper and Madcap. However, that doesn't mean I can't prefer "Obscured" to Dark Side or "Momentary" to "Division."

The first album, the Live one, is sick, schizophrenic, dark, cosmic, as magnificently hallucinatory as could be conceived in those years. The second album, the studio one, offers very interesting insights and excellent tracks, above all the symphony of "Sysyphus" and the bucolic ballad "Grantchester Meadows." The album as a whole is one of the greatest examples of musical avant-garde of the time.

The progressive is influenced by certain Punk and New Wave hints in a fantastic concept about George Orwell's "Animal Farm." Their latest masterpiece is among my all-time favorites: I must have worn it out, I believe.

"punk hints, definitely a punk attitude": also a bit metal and at times industrial

    But what does it mean??

In the sense that it sounded different from usual, even the tones are harsher and more abrasive.

Honestly, I feel very little that is edgy here; the early albums were edgy, not these overly diluted little things... Also, hard rock is edgy, rock and roll is edgy, psych is edgy, even prog can be edgy. I don’t see why we should bring up punk. The Pink Floyd were the band that punks hated the most.

Well, honestly compared to a Dark Side or an AHM, I find the sounds to be much more gritty, which is quite far from the early albums where they are rather more aggressive and hallucinatory.
Pink Floyd: A Saucerful Of Secrets

Second album for Pink Floyd, second psychedelic milestone. In stark contrast to the Barrettian dadaism of the debut, but a precursor to a certain kaut-rock that will emerge in the seventies. The title track is among the most successful psychedelic-progressive experiments of all time.

Rehearsals for "The Dark Side of the Moon." Great album, but far from a masterpiece.

Pino Daniele: Mascalzone Latino
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Great album, featuring beautiful acoustic guitar arrangements (in the tradition already started with the previous “Schizzechea” and the wonderful soundtrack of “Le vie del signore sono finite” by Troisi) and a nice collection of gems: above all “Anna verrà,” among his timeless masterpieces, but also “Ammore scumbinato,” “Carte e cartuscielle,” and “N’ata stagione,” for example. I also don’t mind the more “Dance” tracks.
