Neurosis: A Sun That Never Sets
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Essentially perfect album, except for one small insignificant detail that I just can't accept: the fade-out ending of a few too many songs! Because it's fine to convey the sense of cosmic inconclusiveness of a post-society trying to rise from its own ruins, and it’s okay that the tracks are always quite lengthy... but ending songs with a fade-out is a trick that I can tolerate once or twice at most, not more!

The subsequent "The Eye of Every Storm" is, on the other hand, THE complete masterpiece (except for Bridges, which is good but has never fully convinced me, and it’s almost 12 minutes long; the rest is perfect) with a devastating, insane, super title track. I've heard quite a few criticisms about "Given to the Rising"... let’s say it’s an album that is, on one hand, immediate (it can’t fail to please those who love doom, with those earth-shattering riffs) and on the other hand has an ambient atmospheric work that cruelly seeps in slowly. A great work that is anything but monotonous and should be listened to with a lot of attention; with each listen, there’s a new nuance (of black).

Right. I’ll tell you, apart from the first (which isn’t my style) and the last one being a bit weak, I like all of them from soul to zero, even the "different" given to the rising. What an immense band... I’ve spent a fortune on these records. By the way, “su that” is the second one I listened to, and I thought that the ending of the last track was a defect of the CD!

They were the first, I believe, to merge (those) different styles. But I have to admit that only with the new direction, starting with this album onward, did they align with my tastes... I rediscovered the old albums thanks to those post-2000, and I probably wouldn't have paid them much attention if they had continued with the (respectable) style of Times of Grace... Especially due to the singing, which has physiologically changed (for my tastes, for the better) :-)
