I find myself quite comfortable with it, even though I can't stomach Perry. No Tom Johnston? Or Paul Rodgers? Hi Pier!

  • I'm not as into Paul Rodgers lately... let's say he's moved from eleventh to twentieth place, alongside Peter Hammill, John Fogerty, Greg Allman, Stevie Wonder, and the like.

There's no need for me to say that Peter Hammill, for me, would come first, devouring all 10 names on this list for breakfast :-D

  • Peter Hammill is an immense talent, no doubt about it. Personally, though, I also find that his sung parts are too intrusive and disrupt the balance of both his solo albums and, unfortunately, of Van Der Graaf. Too many lyrics, too much chatter... it’s the same flaw that appeared with Peter Gabriel in Genesis, first hinted at on "Selling England..." and specifically on ...Epping Forest, then shamelessly sprawled on "The Lamb...", causing friction with his bandmates.

Better not to comment on this ;)

  • You know I met him? He and Jackson (a really big guy). I remember he was scarily thin, underweight and pale. Incredible that such a physique could unleash that hyena-like fury.

Yes, yes, Hammill is a stick, I haven't met him but I've seen him in person and it's true. Then it depends on when you saw him, like in the 2003-2004 period, post-heart attack, he must have been at his thinnest.

  • Blessed youth! It was 1973, concert in Pesaro. I remember two more things: they started with Theme One and it was one of the loudest concerts of my life, leaving my ears ringing for a couple of days. Banton's Taurus pedalboard shattered everyone's eardrums and the sax made my brain bleed.

Live in the early '70s they must have been really raw live. But I didn't think that in 1973 they were still doing concerts like Van Der Graaf Generator, I thought they had, momentarily, finished the year before. Anyway, trust me, he is skinnier now than in 1973 :-D
