    Pop not in the sense of crappy music, but in the sense of that vast macro-genre that includes rock, prog, bossa nova, MPB, light music, etc.

    So when I said pop, I didn't mean "shittymusic" because pop isn't that at all. The fact is that these guys, particularly Frank Zappa, Crimson, and Yes, have nothing to do with pop.

    Well, certainly the aforementioned, aside from Zappa in some albums, have much more to do with pop music than with jazz or classical music. They take influences from the latter genres, but they always remain within the song form, even if it's expanded.
