It's great to see Nebraska at the top of the list. I agree that it's the film of the year, and I'm really pleased that you included Blue Jasmine as well. Underrated by many, despite not being a masterpiece, it marks Woody's return to good form with Blanchett in stunning shape. Only God Forgives is an incredible punch, and I like it a lot, especially for how it diverges from the success of Drive. A director who doesn't repeat himself and doesn't get complacent. It's fashionable to throw shade on La Grande Bellezza, and I disagree because it's a film with a strong critique, featuring great cinematography, even if it's not for everyone. The only one on the list that I didn't like is The Wolf of Wall Street. A bit gratuitous, shot at times like a music video, and the 3 hours are definitely felt.

According to merit, "Rush," "Venere in Pelliccia," and "Il Passato" also deserve a spot.

Among the others that deserve recognition this year, I would have added "Gravity," "12 Years a Slave," and "Prisoners," but I couldn't find them in the database.

Prisoners, it's true, was a pleasant surprise! With a convincing Hugh Jackman. Well done, we might almost have a de-rece;).

I definitely have to see Polanski's, damn it. I will keep my distance from Howard's Rush. It's not for me.

"Nebraska" and "Only God Forgives" are a head and shoulders above the rest. I did enjoy Scorsese's film, but in Allen's, I found only a very talented Blanchett. "12 Years a Slave" is great mainly because McQueen really knows what he’s doing. Does "Gravity" deserve that much praise? I'm more scared of Bullock’s presence than anything else.

Gravity deserves a blockbuster perspective; it’s pure action.

I used to think like you too (I mean, we're talking about Bullock :)) but she really deserves it.
