Nice top 10. The first two are absolutely perfect.

Thank you. It was tough for me to place King Crimson in second place, but on the other hand, Van Der Graaf Generator is my absolute favorite prog band.

I agree, your comment could have come straight from me, the battle between the two is extremely tough. There are also the Soft Machine making things more complicated and as far as I'm concerned, even the Genesis, but Crimson and Van der Graaf are probably the peaks of the genre (also because the Soft Machine aren't exactly pure progressive).

Absolutely agree about Soft Machine (whom I'm crazy about), but they are not exactly prog in the strictest sense.

Another group that truly deserves the podium.

I've placed The Giant in third because it has always brought me great enjoyment. It's clear that we're talking about a group that could very well deserve the top spot (if it weren't for the first two, though..:-D).

I also enjoyed it a lot. Octopus above all. I haven't listened to this stuff in a while, but I think I'll dig out some prog records soon.

Wyatt, along with Hammil, is the singer from whom I draw the most inspiration to sing with my band. That explains the reason for the photo ;-)

You sing in a group and draw inspiration from Wyatt and Hammill (basically two of the greatest voices EVER). But congratulations, oh really.

Wyatt then used his voice in a way that, oh my God... Hammill, not to mention, one of the great masters, along with Buckley and Stratos (and Galas, later on).

I instead take pleasure in the Family at 9*, they definitely belong in the top 10 for me.

The Family had to be included for various reasons! The first reason is that in just a few years they released one more beautiful record than the other (while still managing to bring a good deal of innovation to English music between the 60s and 70s), and the second is that Chapman’s voice is definitely among the most distinctive of the genre!

For Hjhhjij: I absolutely agree with you regarding Hammil and Wyatt (but I also agree on mentioning Sorrenti and Buckley). As for me... I'm giving it a try! :-D I'm definitely not copying them (because I wouldn't be able to), but I draw inspiration from their way of modulating and setting their voices, a characteristic of theirs that has always fascinated me a lot. As for the lyrics, yes... from that perspective, Hammil is for me more than just an inspiration.

Oh holy pig, if you make an album I want it, you know, I'm telling you right now :D

I just forgot about the first Sorrenti, but I did mention Stratos and Buckley, the latter being an absolute pioneer in rock for using the voice as a real instrument.
