    Mmm... Are you telling me to add the nice Plato? He definitely fits into the twenty. It’s not that fundamental, except for the theory of ideas. The only master of antiquity who really changed thought is Aristotle, aside from that, not much else. A special place for Socrates because he was the first to realize that reflection had to shift to man. Pythagoras? Well, if I include him, I could add another 50! And maybe I will :)

    Locke stands out because he was the first to conduct a serious investigation into the limits of human cognitive faculties. His ideas have long been surpassed, but the topic remains relevant. Moreover, he was a great political thinker, the father of liberalism. And that is no small feat...

    You don't see Schopenhauer because I know him little, and from what little I know (which isn't so little after all) he gives me the impression of being more of a polemicist than anything else. Moreover, he's someone who preaches very well and practices very poorly, and I just can't digest that... I would make a similar argument for J.J. Rousseau.
