Small preamble.
This is not a review (if I was ever capable of writing one), but a telegraphic note, the unexpected fruit of my dear old stubborn and reckless (and for once rediscovered) musical greediness.
Indeed, it used to happen to me often, now it is rarer but every now and then it happens to me again, it seems.
Thank God, I am not completely "aged" yet.
It happens that while wandering among the shelves of a record store in a big city, I come across the name of a group absolutely unknown to me, on a cover that I find attractive, and then, just like that, instinct pushes me to make a blind purchase.
And so, a few days ago, I found myself spinning this "Parades" by Efterklang in my CD player.
Now, without getting too lost in chatter, which I am usually prone to do, after simply stating that (web source) Efterklang apparently is a Danish band born in 2004 with post-rock/neo-classical roots, I will limit myself to expressing the sensations experienced upon the first listen to the music in this album through a simple "mathematical" formula (don’t be surprised by the seemingly audacious combinations):
Efterklang - Parades = ((Comus - First Utterance) + (Lucio Battisti - Anima Latina)) * (Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space)/((Any album by Sigur Ros)+(XTC - Apple Venus Pt1))
and I simply invite everyone to watch the video of "Mirador" (one of the most evocative tracks on the album), a real treat for ears and for eyes thirsty for "other dimensions", and especially for fans of M.C. Escher.
Enjoy the viewing and listening.
