THE REVIEW

A common belief is that Edoardo Bennato's career ended after the famous "Sono solo canzonette"; it is true that up until that point, the output from the national Edo was incredible, but not appreciating the subsequent works is frankly just due to forms of prejudice.

Edo has never lost his essential ingredients: irony, mockery, and (self)criticism are always present and constitute a "trademark." A few years ago, precisely at the time of the release of this album, Bennato had a television argument with Luzzatto Fegiz, who accused him of not being as "angry" as he used to be; and precisely in this regard, pieces such as "c'era una volta", "meglio topolino", "la frittata è fatta", "chi non salta", "la fiera dei buoni sentimenti", "in nome del popolo italiano" cannot go unnoticed: each of these texts contains jabs against power and the lies of society and are enough to make this an album far from negligible. Enough with always talking about Bennato with a gaze directed at past masterpieces, he is always there, and his intelligence as an artist and musician is always present and has never abandoned him. Of course, some dips in inspiration are physiological and it would be inhuman if there weren't any in forty years of music.

All in all, a beautiful album from what I believe is the number one and most important artist in the Italian rock scene.

This review dispels the notion that Edoardo Bennato's career declined after his hit Sono solo canzonette. It highlights the consistent presence of his trademark irony and social criticism in Se son rose fioriranno. Despite some expected dips in inspiration, the album stands out as a meaningful contribution to Italian rock. Bennato's relevance and intelligence as an artist remain intact.
