Edorardo Live Tour 2012 is a double live CD by the singer-songwriter from Bagnoli, Edoardo Bennato, produced by Giorgio Bennato for the independent "family" label Cheyenne Records.
The first CD opens with Venderò, entirely played acoustically by Edoardo alone with an acoustic guitar (specifically a Gibson J45) and the indispensable harmonica. The second track is a medley of great hits (Abbi Dubbi/Sono Solo Canzonette/Il Gatto e La Volpe) where Edoardo, still alone on stage, also makes use of a foot tambourine and a kazoo, while in the third song, "Il Paese Dei Balocchi", the inimitable sound of the one-man-band is joined by the band. Next is "Mi Chiamo Edoardo," a track he defined as "tough," from his last 2010 album, where our rocker abandons the tambourine and kazoo entirely, continuing to play only guitar and harmonica for the rest of the concert. Following this, from the album Kaiwanna, is "Asia," offered in an arrangement very similar to the original version, showcasing many virtuoso moments by talented guitarists Gennaro Porcelli and Giuseppe Scarpato. "Un Aereo per L'Afganistan" (2010) is Bennato's indispensable homage against war, somewhat like in past tours offering "Stop America" and/or "Non è Amore", which have been set aside to make room, as is only right, for some fresher tunes.
The seventh track is "La Torre di Babele," a true and inimitable hallmark of Edoardo presented in a new very rock and energetic arrangement; it's as if it was released 15 days before the live performance, yet it dates back to 1976, unbelievable! This is followed by "È Lei" (lead single from the latest album) in an arrangement identical to the studio version (complete with strings), "Vendo Bagnoli" the true revelation of the tour, which returns to the setlist after years in a very renewed and blues-flavored version, "La Mia Città," a single produced by Ultrasuoni in 2011 in anticipation of a never-completed recording work, and "Cuba," a very interesting and more convincing rearrangement than the original on the latest album (another version of this song exists on YouTube, for those who claim Bennato isn't creative anymore). The disc closes with "Italiani," a single written on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Italy's unification, also present in a previous live (Canzoni Tour 2011), presented on TV in a show hosted by Pippo Baudo, used as the theme song for the show "Domenica Live" for a few episodes before the hosting takeover by Barbara D'Urso (with a slightly different arrangement) and available on YouTube with an official video in both the record and "television" versions... let's say that calling Italiani "unreleased" would be saying very little...!
The second CD opens with "Galileo" (Sbandato, 1998) in an arrangement that closely resembles the original, which is also wonderful. Following are "C'era un Re" (from the latest album) where Edoardo narrates the events of Italy's unification in an ironic key, "Rinnegato" (1973) with a very rock arrangement with distorted guitars, harmonica, and piano, "In Amore" (second single from the latest album) in a not very original arrangement that is identical to the studio version (even here the sequences for the strings are evident). The fifth track, "La Fata" (1977, from the legendary album "burattino Senza Fili") is offered, however, with a new arrangement that recalls the one from Mtv Storytellers, with the difference that in the latter the two guitarists use semi-acoustic guitars and the Flegreo Quartet was present on stage, while in this case the guitarists use electric guitars and the strings are completely absent. Next is "Notte di Mezza Estate" (a famous 2006 single featuring Alex Britti) preceded by a remarkable solo by Giuseppe Scarpato. Then alternate with very "assertive" and "tough" arrangements great hits that marked his career that need no introduction, namely "In prigione in prigione," "L'isola che Non C'è," "Il Rock di Capitan Uncino," "Meno Male Che Adesso Non C'è Nerone" and "Nisida." The last track is a gift, a new studio version reworked of "Un'estate Italiana," the theme of the 1990 World Cup sung at the time with Gianna Nannini.
I RECOMMEND IT TO YOU, AMAZING SONGS, VERY TOUGH AND ROCKING ARRANGEMENTS.. I LISTEN TO IT VERY OFTEN...
