This first CD by Edguy was produced in 95 but was practically ignored by most of the metal critics... a pity because it was an excellent original album made by young talents (the members were 16-17 years old at the time)...
Re-released in 2000, it was taken more seriously and received the success it hadn't managed to achieve. Analyzing the album more deeply, we realize that the tracks are original given the young age of the members and technically well constructed. The album starts with the powerful "Hallowed", an excellent demonstration of the abilities and creativity of lead singer Tobias Sammet. The second track is "Misguiding your Life", another showcase of the group's impressive rhythmic-technical ability. The song also features a compelling solo intertwined with a Beethoven symphony, revealing a good knowledge of classical music by the lead guitarist. The following is "Key to my Fate", which follows the line of the other two, showing a linear verse that leads to an absolutely catchy chorus.
"Sands of Time" proves to be a good ballad with a classical piano track. Here we come to the most powerful and catchy song at the same time, with an excellent intro in perfect power style that leads us to a fitting chorus for this song. "Eyes of the Tyrant" is perhaps the most subdued song of the album along with the following "Frozen Candle", although both are still good songs. The next one is an exciting ballad with an equally compelling text titled "Roses to One".
The finale is the aptly named "Power and Majesty", where the album concludes with a wave of pure metallic power. The album demonstrates the excellent potential of a band composed of those who were still minors, indeed later this glimpse of compositional ability would prove fundamental for the production of their best record "Vain Glory Opera"... where finally the critics noticed Edguy.
