"The Forgotten Goddess", the debut of Echoes Of Eternity, surprised me. The quartet, male instrumental trio and female voice, goes far beyond what some might superficially label as a hearty meal for fans of Lacuna Coil, Evanescence, Theatre Of Tragedy, Nightwish, or Therion, thanks to a sound that can mislead your expectations. Their progressive metal has ties with modern metallic forms and thrash influences; moreover, the structural mutations lead the band to handle the atmospheric metal material with sensitivity as well as the more powerful passages.
The sound is dynamic, gothic, rich in harmony and aggressive melancholy, and the arrangements (like the technical parts) are complex and refined, although everything always remains approachable. It's a bit like if Dream Theater were blended with groups like Mayfair, Depressive Age, or Lost Century (remember them?), and then sifted through Eyes Of Fire and The Gathering.
