The Profile

Earth Crisis is an American metalcore/hardcore band from Syracuse, New York, central to the vegan straight edge movement. Renowned for militant lyrics and crushing, riff-driven heaviness, they helped define 1990s metalcore with releases like Firestorm and Destroy the Machines.

Formed in 1989 in Syracuse, NY; key figure of the vegan straight edge movement. Breakup in 2001 and reformation in 2007. Notable releases include the Firestorm EP (1993) and debut album Destroy the Machines (1995). Worked with Victory Records and released Breed the Killers via Roadrunner Records. Vocalist: Karl Buechner.

A fervent ode to Earth Crisis, spotlighting their militant straight edge identity and the crushing intensity of Gomorrah’s Season Ends (1996). The review praises Karl’s unrelenting vocals, slow and suffocating tempos, and riff-driven brutality without solos. ā€œNames Carved Into Graniteā€ is cited as a seven-minute, doom-tinged descent. Final verdict: take it or leave it—no middle ground.
