"AH AH AH AH!"
This is definitely the attitude with which to approach this album and which these talented and crazy Eagles of Death Metal must surely have had.
The birds of death are none other than Josh Homme (Kyuss, Qotsa), Dave Catching (Qotsa, Mondo Generator), Brian O'Connor, and Homme’s friend and former schoolmate, Jesse "The Devil" Hughes. For those who don't know them, our guys are dedicated to a pseudo southern-hard rock, with strongly garage sounds and infused with acid blues.
This very recent album, July 2006, is very pleasant to listen to and offers moments of pure and fun goofing around... yet always featuring an acidic distorted electric guitar. For this second album, the band hosts a good number of friend-colleagues (Jake Black, Mark Lanegan, Dave Grohl, and Joey Castillo).
Despite all these heads-sounding and the reunion atmosphere, the album is excellent and offers great songs, sometimes compelling and carefree rock n' roll ("Boy's Bad News", "Solid Gold"), other times little country gems ("Bag o'Miracles") and more distinctly southern tracks ("Keep Your Head Up"). The devilish drummer Homme drives the rhythm in the acidic rock-blues of "Chase The Devil" and the Qotsa-like "Cherry Cola".
A great simple and light album, yet not predictable or useless, to play loud at a party amidst rivers of beer, thousands of bikini-clad girls, and 2006’s stoned cowboys.
When you organize the party, call me, and I'll bring the album :)
