Fifth release three years after the last one, for this, in my opinion, magical trio, advocates of an instrumental math/rock of exquisite craftsmanship, accustomed to technicisms of every kind/type, that do not neglect, however, a certain underlying "depth", thus outlining not sterile demonstrations of technique, but compositions that are complex yet equally spiritual. I also want to note that the definition of math/rock is a bit limiting for the band's music (although it is the closest one), because it is a very personal language that draws from antecedents like Don Caballero, but touches technical, prog, etc.... transcending the canons of math itself, and becoming an unclassifiable entity on its own.
Having established that, we arrive at the album in question, which presents itself as a set of maps of the human psyche, expressed without words and academic concepts, through a sound flow containing all the psychic characteristics, among which stand out aggression, madness, reflectiveness, taste, and style, to produce compositions, before all, worthy of being called such, and which, like all respectable minds, are mutable, ductile, always in continuous change; that is, in constant becoming. Many genres traversed and manipulated by these arrhythmic individuals: jazz, math, rock, progressive, ambient, psychedelia, and finally, metal. The latter is slightly more present in the album compared to its predecessor and suggests to me that Dysrhythmia's intentions are to harden their proposal increasingly—a thought derived from the various incursions into certain extreme metal, more evident in the drum parts. All of this, however, is perfectly fused with the other mentioned influences to create a "fever" more intense and powerful, which, for health reasons, cannot be called a "new flu". The production is, as usual, excellent, and the arrangements equally so. Important is the last track, a piece about ten minutes long, that definitively glorifies the three musicians as great composers, able to range from one genre to another, and from calm to aggression, without the slightest flaw. If the previous "Barriers And Passages" (masterpiece) was "more introspective", this "Psychic Maps" presents itself as more outspoken, with more power, yet remaining artistically and musically excellent. Once again a masterpiece, enjoy listening.
