LA RECENSIONE

Hello everyone, this is my first review and I hope you like it and find it interesting.

I would like to talk to you about the Duran Duran concert I attended in Rome, at the Foro Italico, last July 18th.

So much has been said about Duran Duran: that they started as a boy band ahead of their time, that they focused heavily on image, that they're too superficial, etc., etc.... I don't believe that one always needs to be deep in content within rock music, and that a bit of lightness is a natural part of life, and if it's sincere and spontaneous, even better.

The setting of the concert is very evocative: the central court of the Foro Italico is said to have a capacity of 35,000 spectators. The stage is quite simple (lights, screen) considering the importance of the concert.

Around 9 PM, my girlfriend and I take our seats in an almost empty central court, and an Italian band (which I'm not familiar with) opens the evening with a kind of dark wave with all similar songs, in short, quite boring, perhaps also due to poor amplification.

They leave and time passes... finally, at 10 PM, the soundcheck, then the lights go out... the anticipation rises... HERE THEY FINALLY ARE! As elegant as always, Le Bon with a beard and a bit of a tummy, John Taylor extremely skinny, Nick Rhodes with the usual platinum blonde bob.

Let's get to the musical aspect... the latest "All You Need Is Now" is performed in its entirety, with tracks that blend perfectly with the old classics (for the record, A View to a Kill, Wild Boys, Save a Prayer, Girls on Film, Rio, Hungry Like a Wolf, Notorious, Come Undone, etc.).

Le Bon jumps, spins, invites everyone to clap, talks to the audience, and even dedicates a song to the earthquake victims in Emilia Romagna with the wonderful "Ordinary World" (for me, the most beautiful pop song of all time)... and the audience? sings, dances, and has an absolute blast....

In conclusion, I say it was a magical evening, I've seen a lot of concerts in my life but none like this one, I feel sorry for those who weren't there, and I say goodbye. Byeeeeeee

Duran Duran

English music group formed in Birmingham in the late 1970s. They rose to international popularity in the early 1980s (notably with Rio), combined striking visuals with pop, funk and synth sounds, experienced lineup changes (Andy Taylor, Roger Taylor, Warren Cuccurullo) and have released albums from the 1980s through the 2020s.
