I call him, I don't call him; I call him, I don't call him. Enough procrastinating: I phone Les, hoping he's in California.
(Obviously, I won't write the number...Here).
Les: "Yes, hello" (slightly sleepy).
DeMa: "Hi cousin, it's L...... from Italy; how are you?"
Les: "Aside from you dragging me out of bed, I'd say good; how are you?"
DeMa: "I'm really pissed off Les; and so I wanted to call you to get your wise advice."
Les: "Explain to me, then, I'll try to help you; but I don't have much time..."
DeMa: "I told you some time ago about that website where I occasionally write reviews (for anyone who didn't get it, it's DeBaser); I had already prepared a couple of drafts on the new albums by Paradise Lost and Slayer, but someone beat me to it...DAMN IT. And now I don't know what to do!!! Help me out, I know you can."
Les: "You could still send your reviews. What's the problem?"
DeMa: "My dear Les, duplicates are not very well received on DeBaser. I desperately want to write something, but I don't have good ideas at the moment."
Les: "Why don't you dive into Duo De Twang? It doesn't seem like it's been reviewed yet."
DeMa: "You're right Les!!!! That crazy and raucous project of yours, together with Bryan who, with that scruffy beard, seems like a nephew of ZZ Top!!! You're a genius cousin, and I'm certainly not discovering it now, my God!!!!"
Les: "Great album that one, recorded in the quiet countryside of my Ranch in absolute freedom. And I won't even tell you about the rivers of beer we consumed while recording the songs; we laughed ourselves to tears."
DeMa: "Absolutely crazy cover, with that photo inside the booklet of you two at sunset; country-blues-acoustic classic. But you know well that I'm biased when I have to write something about your Music. You managed once again to surprise me, with your innate humor, especially when you tackle the Bee Gees cover."
Les: "Think that we recorded the Gibb brothers' song in the dead of night; you can well imagine our condition and our so to speak alcohol levels!!!"
DeMa: "Ahahahahahahah every time I listen to the track it makes me tap my foot in time; but my favorite piece is the song that concludes the album: Jerry Was A Race Car Driver which in this acoustic version takes on a blistering speed that thrills me and makes me die laughing!!! You're always the greatest Les; now I'll say goodbye and thank you for the tip. I'll try to write something. Say hello to the family."
Les: "Same to you; and please L...... don't miss it the next time I come to play in Italy with the PRAIMUS."
What else to say: it was, in tandem with the new work by Primus, my album of the year, in 2014.
