This record was different and still is... It possesses an uncommon sonic sophistication and intensity, not to mention the great power generated by the young band from Vicenza, coupled with decisive electronic insertions, making this debut grandiose. That could be enough, I'm not exaggerating...

Produced by Darian Rundall (Pennywise, Yellowcard).

Almost two years have passed since the release of this album, praised even by UK critics. These Dufresne (from The Shawshank Redemption) were, for me, the most interesting Italian band of 2006. Why talk about them now? Because, it is said, a new album will be released soon, so it seemed necessary, given the stature of the band and especially of the record, to propose this review. Several singles from this album have been released, including the latest one (accompanied by a nice video) Fashion Kills Romance, in my opinion the best track on the album, the only one that still makes me say damn – balance, power, melodic brutality; with those incredible electric twists, we're beyond post-hardcore, this is really strong stuff, a track that should be listened to in the dark, it makes you sink in, a song that scrapes inside. Other interesting episodes on the album and definitely worth mentioning: Nexiest Luces ("non so se crederti oramai non so capire come sei adesso che"...) and Opera, two small masterpieces in Italian (among those present), Readymade Complaints then is the track that introduced them to me, and I find it very skate as a track, anyway beautiful, there's no denying that, but the other true gem of the album is Root Is a Flower That Disdain Fame, a very loaded track where the guitars do an impressive job, leaving you breathless and at the end of the album, a ghost track that’s pure delirium. For the pickiest, in certain dark atmospheres and electronic incursions, they remind you of Underoath and at other times of Autumn to Ashes. But this is nitpicking, in fact, strange but true, Dufresne have their own sound. A 9 on the report card and see you next time.

Italian tends to enhance that mix of suffering and anger that Dufresne express well.

The quasi-hardcore setup and shouted parts remain always at the forefront in every track, making the product lively and fresh to the ear.
