This split CD in the punk rock genre, released by Anti/corpi Fabbricazioni in collaboration with Narcolettica Records, features a total of 10 tracks, 5 by Duff and an equal number by Io, Tu e Cesare (the strangest name heard in recent times!).
From the first listen, you can notice a certain impact gap between the two Calabrian bands. Duff demonstrate that they are a band with a very clear idea of their sound and attitude, while Io, Tu e Cesare seem to still be in their early recording stages.
The performances by Duff open with the track "Il Mondo E' Impazzito", powerful punk rock with very well-played and expertly mixed guitars (Nofx docet!); these guys know how to write songs, and the lyrics are also very well crafted and heartfelt. The themes of the songs mainly concern the personal sphere: "Via Montello 9" addresses the issue of young punk rock bands armed with passion and patience to play in the most diverse clubs without being properly appreciated and rewarded; "Il Mondo E' Impazzito" deals with the classic youth discomfort and concludes with the phrase "...bastava un sorriso e invece il mondo è impazzito..." and so does the beautiful "Chiavi E Doveri". It's just a shame that the 5 tracks leave you wanting more, but the imminent full-length album from the band will surely satisfy the deepest desires of Duff fans.
Io, Tu e Cesare, on the other hand, alternate three purely punk tracks with clear Californian influences with two other acoustic and intimate songs performed with clean guitar and a voice somewhere between betrayed and resigned. Undoubtedly, Io, Tu e Cesare have ample room for improvement, yet there are clear premises for future maturation and an attitude and predisposition to songwriting that bodes well.
Overall, I would call it a good CD, well-cared for in terms of artwork as well.
