Are you tired of the usual progressive rock? Have you listened to everything there is to hear, entire discographies of Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP, Rush, Camel, and so on? Also, have you never liked French prog?
Here's a way to redeem yourself. "Eros" is one of the greatest masterpieces coming from France, and the score I give it is mainly based on one fact: the Dün completely break away from the stereotypes of their native land. Their music, like that of Magma long before, has been defined as Zeuhl, a genre that is always a bit difficult to identify. I, not being a great scholar, can tell you that it has a rather modern sound, with often very dynamic rhythms concerning all the instrumentation: in this case various flutes, drums, bass, and keyboards. A truly ingenious mix makes "Eros" an unforgettable listen from the very first time.
Four tracks, almost 10 minutes each, for a total duration of around 36 minutes. No vocalist, just an incredible instrumental performance, where Pascal Vandenbulcke (flautist) and Thierry Tranchant (bass) certainly stand out. Dissonances, hints of avant-prog, classicism, fusion, and a touch of "Canterbury": in this album, you will find all this and even more. A "transitional" album, as the band did not release any others after 1981, but left behind a true gem. Not to be missed.
