THE REVIEW

Dated 2011, the album by this Ethiopian group was a true revelation for me, compelling me to delve deeper and explore a world, the so-called Ethio-jazz, of which I barely knew the legendary Mulatu Astatke considered the father of the genre and who has played with some famous jazz musicians.

The sound of Dub Colossus I would rather define as Ethio-groove, an extraordinary blend of many genres from jazz to funk to reggae but seasoned with the authentic roots of Ethiopian music and that shines absolutely by its own light, and what a light!

The track GURAGIGNA, which you can also find on YouTube, is something incredibly captivating, but all the tracks have something unique and truly open the doors to a magical and distant world.

Founded and produced by Nick Page who gathered around him some beautiful female voices and some real instrumental talents like the young pianist Samuel Yirga who many already consider destined for a bright future, this project, with three albums to its credit, has proven to be extraordinary especially live.

If they happen to be near you during the summer, don't miss them!

Listen carefully, it might shake up your overheated neurons.
