When I listen to their version
of "Brain Damage"
it drives me nuts
already inflated
by five big buffoons
who get on stage
having exhausted every idea
lost all inspiration
they become a cover band
to earn a few bucks.
But you can't sing
"Brain Damage" that way,
I don't like that usual style,
at least try to change!
One thing is when you perform
"The Spirit Carry On"
and it’s enjoyable,
another is when you desecrate
a landmark song
in a manic way.
Yes, the axe is Petruccian,
but you can't anyway
you've ruined it
and there's no way I'll come
to a cover concert.
You can have class
without having style.
All this to say
that it's sheer arrogance.
It's disconnected, it's summarized,
it's cut, tormented,
it's pie in the sky.
Thanks, James my friend,
for not being able to sing
another similar record
"Number of the Beast":
I say it sincerely.
Especially demonstrating to the world
that you can barely perform
YOUR songs, and that's saying a lot.
"Brain Damage" is about a mental illness,
you sing it as if it's a story
about two people who broke up
and he is soooo sad.
"I'll see you on the dark side of the moon"
it's in a hideous key,
I'll be vomiting till tonight.
"On the Run" is great,
okay, also "Breathe" isn't bad,
but that frigging voice
drills my brain
makes me go crazy.
"Any colour you like"
is redone in a yuck version,
complete with progressive keyboards
that without half measures
after a while demolish your patience.
Bili-Bili-Bili-Bili-Bili-Bili go the keyboards,
piri-piri-piri-piri-piri-piri goes the guitar.
As usual.
The rest of the CD
are the usual little plays
ah-yes-yes again
how I love it.
This show of class
I just can't stand,
but go to hell,
you damn D.T.
And raise your voice,
damn it, sing louder,
let yourself be heard,
with this precise-little-sound
you've crossed the line,
oh little singer
of the Teatrino del Sognetto!
"The dream carry on"!?
No, enough, have mercy,
with these angelic sounds
of my tortured patience
putrefied and tormented.
But try listening to the "The Who",
dear James, and understand what it means
to be precise, clean, and powerful.
What it means to sing in a rock band,
not pretty flowers.
Now I'll go enjoy "Tommy"
for the 5001st time.
Let’s all together greet
Live in Amsterdam:
prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Dream Theater had the great merit of giving the old progressive rock of the ’70s a new possible guise, a new interpretation, a different approach.
Personal antipathies are allowed, but keep them out of judgments and never lose sight of RESPECT.
