Rating: We already knew it: the New Wave is back in fashion. Joy Division, The Smiths, Cure, Chameleon Uk, and Depeche Mode are the icons of the new generations of musicians. We learned this by reading interviews with Interpol, Editors, and Libertines. We discovered it with mainstream bands as well as with underground productions.
It's precisely on the latter category that I would like to focus my attention to talk about Dream Affair. An American band raised with the vinyls (or mp3s) of some of the '80s realities mentioned at the beginning of the previous paragraph. Should we be happy, or should we yawn? With Dream Affair, we find neither a slavish imitation nor a "revised and corrected" re-proposal of those sounds that marked the Thatcher and Reagan years.
I really love their "Endless Day". It's an album that certainly won't make anyone scream a miracle, but it manages to retain the essence of those sounds that are very dear to us.
There's a bit of everything: dancable rhythms in the style of New Order, "jodivision-like" melancholy, and dreamy pop in the 4AD style. In my opinion, you won't even struggle to trace flashes of the very first Simple Minds.
Listen to songs like the title track, "Silent Story", "405" or "No Use Hiding".
Strong personality and robust determination. Revitalistic yes, but with class!
