THE REVIEW

A perfect blend of Alice in Chains and Black Sabbath is what is offered by the Drain S.T.H., an all-female Swedish band.

Originally from Stockholm, the girls began their short career with the album "Horror Wrestling" followed by "Freaks of Nature," an album certainly more accessible than the previous one, where the vocal harmonies of Maria Sjöholm and Martina Axén (respectively the band's lead singer and drummer) take center stage in the eleven tracks present on the album.

An album that features many interesting tracks, starting with "Alive" (indebted to the more inspired Alice in Chains), "I Wish...", "Black" (written together with Tommy Iommi), and "Right Through You". A metal heavily influenced by grunge, with some rap elements (in "Simon Says") makes the album smooth and easily digestible even to those not accustomed to "heavy" music. This "Freaks of Nature" unfortunately is the second and last discographic chapter of the band, which having failed to make the big leap was unceremoniously dropped by its record label.

Discovered almost by chance, the Drain S.T.H. have imposed themselves with arrogance in my daily listening thanks to the immediacy of their compositions and the enveloping beauty of the voice of the aforementioned Maria Sjöholm. We could call them an "easy" version of L7, but there are so many distinctive traits of the band that make the Drain S.T.H. an interesting group, one to be thoroughly discovered.
