Douglas Adams (1952–2001) was an English author and humorist, creator of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (first broadcast as a 1978 BBC radio series) and the Dirk Gently novels. He co‑authored the wildlife book Last Chance to See, worked on Doctor Who, and co‑created the game Starship Titanic.

Known for deadpan British humor, the recurring number 42, and the indispensable towel from The Hitchhiker’s Guide; wrote across radio, novels, TV (Doctor Who), nonfiction, and games.
