Debut album for the side project of Josh Klinghoffer (for those who may not know, the current guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers).

Like his friend and predecessor John Frusciante, his solo/side projects are always as far removed as possible from the style of his main band, so even if the Red Hot Chili Peppers are not exactly your favorite band, you can still certainly appreciate the work in question.

The genre proposed by the ensemble led by our protagonist can be classified as a very experimental electronic rock/synth pop, with vague Radiohead influences: very sparse and essential rhythm, ethereal and dreamy atmospheres woven by piano, keyboards, and synth, and above all the minimalist guitar and the exquisitely androgynous voice (meant in a good sense) of the talented Klinghoffer (also the author of all the pieces), simply perfect to enhance the album's atmospheres.

The album opens with "Order/Disorder", a great track with the potential to be a single, where in the finale many echoes of the aforementioned Radiohead can be heard; however, the song does not best exemplify the album's overall atmosphere, which unfolds better with the following "Idleidolidyl" and "Eye Opener," especially the latter, rarefied and emotional, delicate and dreamy. The entire album moves between these atmospheres, without any drops and with notable peaks (listen to the final crescendo of the title track): all the songs are little gems of delicate minimalist rarefaction.

A small honorable mention also goes to the cover, magnificently minimalist and one that I personally adore; a simple brushstroke of mixed colors on a white canvas, an image that perfectly reflects the album as a whole.

Even though it is an utterly non-commercial work, it is not at all difficult to assimilate and appreciate, and it impresses from the very first listen:

Absolutely worth listening to.
