A breath of wind... a few piano notes... a whispering voice...
This is "Von Der Quelle," the intro of the latest work by the Teutonic Dornenreich, "Hexenwind."
The title - if my translator doesn't deceive me - refers to witchcraft, to magic. Almost at the end of the short piece, the previously whispering voice flares up, uttering a phrase with excitement, a phrase that leads us into "Der Hexe Flammend' Blick": a drum, a guitar, endlessly repeating almost the same notes to the point of obsession, with that voice continuing to whisper words.
Closing your eyes plunges you into a nightmare that the notes and the voice drag you through, which the scream counterpoint torments. Then comes "Der Hexe Nächtlich' Ritt," more dreamy than the previous one, now deeply immersed in the nightmare/dream, every dark, delicate, intrusive sound seeps into our minds, victims of the instrumental spell to which we are subjected.
"Aus Längst Verhalltem Lied" is an acoustic guitar and nothing else. It deceives us into thinking we've escaped the curse, but in reality, it's just a prelude to the true end of the nightmare. A prelude to "Zu Träumen Wecke Sich, Wer Kann," those who dream may awaken.
The nightmare is over, the spell is broken, we open our eyes, look around, and feel a longing to return to living in the dream.
