It has been since the days of Final Fantasy X that I haven't felt so engaged by the storyline of a video game (unsurprisingly, Dontnod's work received the BAFTA award for "best story"). The character design, the voice actors' performance, the soundtrack, and the game mechanics all contribute to making this interactive storytelling experience unique and unforgettable.
A lot could be said about the structure, the style, and the influences evident in Jean-Luc Cano's screenplay (personally, the first thing I thought of at the beginning of the game was: "Donnie Darko!", but the work is filled with quotes and references that reveal its numerous sources of inspiration). A lot could indeed be said, but perhaps it is better to say nothing and let this masterpiece speak for itself.
