THE REVIEW

Dolores Keane is a cornerstone of Celtic music, known for her interpretation of traditional Irish ballads and the writing of folk-like songs. Although she has been part of many collaborations and covers, her studio work is relatively limited, but in this collection, one can find everything there is to know about Keane's music.

Her distinctive feature is the deep voice that certainly does not prevent her from performing almost any kind of song. Within the album, there are some covers, such as the renowned "Let It Be", or the splendid "The Island", along with the sweet "Never Be The Sun". Of course, traditional Irish songs like "Galway Bay" and "Caledonia" are not missing.

Of course, in terms of themes and sound, the album might be considered somewhat outdated, just listen to "Lion In A Cage" or "My Love Is In America", but the pleasure of listening to Dolores's voice remains unchanged.

I think it is worth mentioning the cover of "Lili Marlene" and the fantastic "Far Away In Australia" and "Telling Me Lies". One of my only regrets about the album is not finding her version of "Down By The Sally Gardens", which I find undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable, alongside that of McKennitt.

We should rediscover this first "Voice Of Ireland", set aside a bit too prematurely and replaced with O'Riordan, thus overturning the view that had been held until then of the title. The album offers a journey back to a time when music was made primarily for personal pleasure, and it never hurts to look back a little, and perhaps who knows, if Mary Black has survived, is it so unlikely to imagine some sort of small reappearance?

After all, from what can be seen, 2012 is the year of comebacks.
