Penitenthiagite includes an intro titled "Introitus: Gaudeamus Omnes", a title track, "Historia Fratris Dulcini Hersiarche", and an instrumental outro with a choir. The work was compared stylistically to Ulver's Bergtatt, praised for melodies and atmosphere, but criticized for mixing and vocal isolation.
