"Every person moves three stars" is the first line of Dolcenera's album titled "Dolcenera in Wonderland" which contains 12 songs (plus a bonus track with the album download from iTunes). The album, which owes its title to a phrase by writer Janet Winterson, not forgetting, as can also be seen from the album cover itself, Alice's more famous wonderland, has as its main theme love and colors: love for a partner, for life, for a friendship.
Yet, despite the theme, this is not a saccharine album. Melodic songs ("Fino a domani") blend in a perfect union with rock songs ("Date a Cesare"... what belongs to Caesar).
The album represents a decisive change compared to previous works, highlighted by the much, and perhaps overly, acclaimed change of look that in the Sanremo experience has often diverted attention from an album that rightfully demands and deserves a lot of attention.
A change that does not provoke perplexity: at its core, we always find the same engaging voice and the same grit. The album is, in fact, very well curated both in conception and execution, starting from the instrumental research and the lyrics, less cryptic than the previous works and more direct, yet always poetic.
Not only that: finally, we find in one of her albums all the emotion that Dolcenera managed to convey in her live performances, thus filling an unresolved gap in previous works.
The album is also interesting for its arrangements and sounds, as in "Oltre le stelle", and the presence of strings and brass manages to paint particular atmospheres.
An excellent work by Dolcenera, certainly more mature and confident in herself, assisted by Roberto Vernetti and precious collaborations such as Piero Pelù, Saverio Lanza, and Francesco Sighieri. The album was mastered in London on December 18, 2008.
Very well executed "Giorni d'estate", a cover of "Right next to the right one" by Tim Christensen and the particular song "Chi decide..".."...sei soltanto tu" split into two songs: the first only piano and voice and the second with a decidedly rock arrangement.
True poetry "La più bella canzone d'amore che c'è" "....and everything else is a matter of style", as Dolcenera sings.
