What an album, folks!
But this isn't the usual American stuff like (Oh! Yeah!) because this album is of uncommon refinement so much so that the style has been considered by some as "Class Metal".
The dance begins with "Unchain The Night" whose fantastic title alone would be enough to promote the track: UNCHAIN THE NIGHT! It offers a haunting and thrilling atmosphere marked by powerful yet melodic riffs, on which Don Dokken puts his vocal cords to work. The second is "The Hunter" which flows in the same vein as the first and is bound to capture the listener's ear. "In My Dreams" is a surreal track that makes me believe for a moment that I'm "In My Dreams". We've reached the ballad of the album: "Slippin' Away" which is one of the best songs I have ever heard! Dokken delves into emotions where the magnificent choruses blend with a near-perfect melody, prompting the listener to get off the couch, head to the window, and gaze at the horizon. With "Lightning Strikes Again" the sound changes drastically, where Don's voice reaches the most dizzying heights that only a few singers know.
A "pizzicato" introduces "It's No Love" where (as if that weren't enough) the guitar virtuosity of George Lynch is highlighted once again. "Jaded Heart" is a beautiful electro/acoustic track with romantic undertones. "Don't Lie To Me" breaks the reflective atmosphere of the previous song. Finally, the moving "Will The Sun Rise" precedes the concluding "Til The Livin' End" which deviates a bit from Dokken's standards for its fast and violent sound (not exactly their forte, but they gave it a shot).
This is therefore the album of consecration for Dokken, with which they marked an era despite the great competition with their fellow city bands.
They're from New York (sorry if that's not much).
