THE REVIEW

"Life Is Full Of Possibilities" is the debut album by Jimmy Tamborello, a.k.a. Dntel, a producer already known in the music scene for his involvement in the emocore group Strictly Ballroom (which defined themselves as "Enocore" due to the great influence of Brian Eno in their compositions) and in the electro-pop formation Figurine. A multifaceted and extravagant character, Jimmy debuted only in 2002 for the Plug Research label, but comes from a long apprenticeship that, as mentioned, led him to experience the most diverse paths and touch different (and distant) genres since as far back as 1994.

"Life Is Full Of Possibilities" is a superb sonic fresco that unfolds in ten deep and thrilling tracks, balanced between ambient, IDM, and minimal electronics, a varied and articulated work that will satisfy all genre enthusiasts and the most demanding palates, always in search of something particular and innovative. Dntel perfectly fulfills his role, being accompanied by a few select guests, among whom Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie stands out, lending his voice in the chaotic and danceable "(This Is) The Dream Of Evan And Chan", and Brian McMahan of the legendary Slint (his indeed is the delicate guitar riff that accompanies Rachel Haden's splendid voice in the slow and calm "Why I'm So Unhappy"), who embellish a compact and refined work, already well above average. One of the peculiar characteristics of the album is its great ability to range between different sounds, without ever losing the thread that ties it all together: consequently, the transition between the references to Autechre and Warp house of "Fear Of Corners", the six minutes of ambient electronics of the suggestive title track, and the intelligent dance rhythms of "Fireworks", is not felt at all, and the listening flows smoothly and without interruptions for its entire duration. Add to that a bizarre yet intriguing artwork, excellent audio quality, wrap it all up and take it home.

In short, with this album, Jimmy Tamborello, aka Dntel, hits the mark and gives us a remarkable record that will not disappoint anyone, a summation of his great productive and musical skills, which hopefully have not been prematurely exhausted, but rather, may soon produce a sequel to this exciting "Life Is Full Of Possibilities", which has made such a great impression. Unquestionably approved.
