THE REVIEW

Let's say it right away: there is a mental map between black music and traditional cultural ties in the first solo album by Dj Tubet, the rapper and improviser from Friuli.

It's titled “Fin Cumò” and is a collection of the best singles released between 2011 and 2020 featuring rich collaborations with other European and non-European artists, a journey that becomes increasingly global under the label Centedischi”.

Besides the Friulian and Italian language, there are 14 languages involved for a total of 14 tracks in a flow of words that above all is a flow of feelings.

The songs explore the great dialectical complexity between the North and South of the world, with an awareness, a look at the inner world, told with the simplicity of popular storytellers.

Almost all the productions are created, recorded, and mixed by Dj Tubet himself, a mix of reggae fragrances and '90s hip-hop sound pulsations.

The listener is sometimes immersed in ancient Friulian, Afro, and Persian musicalities with a sense of dance that even borders on electronic jungle and trap rhythms.

An album that never fails to surprise, also for an excellent percentage of female presence represented both in the melodic/vocal parts and in rap.

This album is therefore a sincere homage to the '90s, always in search of experimentation against the looming specters of globalization and glottophobia.

It's no coincidence that Dj Tubet loves to blend the international language of music with the identity and specificity of his native places, representing a Friuli always at the border with two other states, Austria and Slovenia, therefore historically always a crossroads of peoples.
