I consider "Back to Times of Splendor" one of the most interesting and innovative albums released in recent years, and I was eagerly awaiting this new full-length from the German band "Disillusion."
Unfortunately, however, after several listens, I must admit with a heavy heart (as I was madly in love with the band's first work) that this new "Gloria" is everything I never expected and never wanted to hear, as the Disillusion sound I knew has been completely overturned. Completely forget the long, experimental Prog/Death/Thrash tracks of the debut and also the ethereal and dreamy atmosphere that such a gem of an album could create. In the new release, they have embraced industrial and futuristic sounds, writing songs with a simpler and more direct structure compared to the technical and compositional display of the previous one. Now, with this, I'm not saying that "Gloria" is a bad album, as it presents excellent ideas, but besides not holding up to the debut comparison, it seems to have been made by another band, and this is definitely the factor that penalizes this work the most. This is an album where Disillusion really dared a lot and experimented in every way, and the result in my opinion was a transitional work, which, however, opened many paths to what could be the future sound of the band.
Among the best tracks, we have the beautiful "Dread it," where industrial sounds perfectly merge with the more ethereal parts of "Back to Times of Splendor," with a very exciting and engaging chorus; "Don't go any further," a track almost entirely recited except for the chorus, reminiscent of Rammstein, very original and communicative; and the title track which is more or less in the same style as the previously mentioned song. However, these alternate with rather bland episodes like "Avalanche" or "The hole we are in," where Schmidt's voice seems to want to imitate that of the System of a Down's singer.
In short, an album that left me with a bitter taste and that will certainly be more appreciated by those who are approaching this band for the first time with this work. Nevertheless, Disillusion have once again demonstrated that they are a band out of the box and original, capable of surprising with every release.

03 Don't Go Any Further (03:48)
Um... I saw you this morning... when you were ironing out all the... all the, y'know the stuff that we need, for--for ourselves. And you, you were cleansing it... and I know it's all... y'know it's all... it's all important, y'know. The seam and all, and keeping the lines straight or whatever. Anyway, what I wanted to say... what I wanted to say is...
...don't go any further.
Um... I saw you this morning... when you were ironing out all the... all the, y'know the stuff that we need, for--for ourselves. And you, you were cleansing it... and I know it's all... y'know it's all... gone... it's all over... yeah, I don't know... I don't know... just don't go any further.
Don't go any further!
Um, I know... I was, um... I was late... later than, later than expected... I mean.... don't go any further...
And I know it's all... you know it's all... gone... it's all over with... you know... yeah, I don't know...
Don't go any further!
04 Avalanche (05:06)
Build me a tomb, a sarcophagus
Something to look forward to
In the end when all comes down
Take what you cannot take
And hide what you cannot hide
Then silence me forevermore
I can hear the hangman come
No delay
Build me something to look forward to
I have no regrets
No failure inside me
Weathered all intrigues
Reason comes when pity goes
The shades go down
Down in the lather
Lend me your tears
And we'll defy whatever
Why now should I feel ashamed?
Build me a tomb, a sarcophagus
Something to look forward to
In the end when all comes down
Weep with the call
With the fading
With the avalanche
I am going now
To be waiting
In silence
Forever and ever dreaming
Elevating
Fall for sweetest of dreams
Without awakening
No awakening
