Can music evoke places far from us? Allow us to close our eyes and be transported to another space/time? And again, can an album encapsulate all the magic of a place? Even the majesty of that enormous blue mass we call the sea?
According to the Dirty Three, all this is possible, and they show us with their sumptuous Ocean Songs. Definable as a concept album centered on the sea, this work is the highest peak reached by this unique Australian trio (guitar, drums, and a violin stolen from the gods). The album is an endless journey aboard a raft towards distant shores (Distant Shores), guided by the voice of an authentic and celestial siren (Authentic Celestial Music). Beneath us only deep waters (Deep Waters); sea above, sky below, nothing else, until the ends of the earth (Ends of the Earth). The titles of the pieces that compose this sonic fresco alone express what each individual track wants to evoke. Thus, the instruments are reborn and acquire a new mission. The drums become the voice of the surf, the violin the waves and tides, the guitar the wind among the waves and a sudden storm, and all together they show how the sea itself is nothing but a magnificent, majestic melody…
The advice is to close your eyes and embark on this sonic journey guided by the Dirty Three and their Ocean Songs.

Nothing else is needed to express the essence of any emotion, if these are played impeccably and passionately as in this album.
This album slips away just like that, it is like a background for our reflection, as different images project themselves in front of our eyes.

The violin is the true protagonist of Ocean Songs, sometimes soothing, sometimes tempestuous.
'Authentic Celestial Music' is a true ascensional journey toward the starry sky aboard a raft in the middle of the sea.
