DILULA - The Paths of Love (Self-production)

There is a whole world, an endless culture ranging from electronics to ambient to synth pop in this first album by Dilula (behind which are two Sardinian artists, Gianluca Porcu and Alice Marras). A soundboy culture (in the manner of people like James Lavelle or DJ Shadow) that transitions from the abstract hip hop of the 90s (specifically from the West Coast, particularly San Fran), to the sharp beats of people like Autechre. A soundscape that evokes house music, Mr Oizo’s acid (remember the track the yellow Levi’s puppet was headbanging to in the '90s commercial... well, listen to "Beyond This Reality"), or further back in time, the synth pop wave of the 80s in England. Or even to dark suggestions that could serve as the soundtrack for the many Netflix series that play with the police or "sick" imagination of Fincher (think Seven, think thus NIN). All of this, and more, sets the stage for… songs. Yes, pop songs for a new audience. Songs that, with Marras's voice sometimes childish, sometimes sensually chanteuse-like from another era (the 30s), gift us new sensations. An album to savor… especially at night.
