The phenomenon of the 80s is, for the few music connoisseurs, a period attributable to those few and limited "pioneering" groups of the so-called New wave.
However, my purpose is not to criticize bands like Cure, Smiths, Clash, but rather to highlight one of the rarest and most unknown gems of the sophisticated mid-80s music. Tagged 4AD and dated 1986, "Extractions" by Dif Juz is an ensemble of romantic avant-garde music, where the concepts are expressed through strings, drums, guitars, which, although they awaken with New wave touches, give life to dreamy, "Summer" and sensual atmospheres.
The opening track is "crosswinds", where a sax rides a powerful evocative and almost minimalist wave of 7 minutes, yet at the same time, it seems as though "Silver passage" and "the Last day" want to take the listener to a summer landscape; perhaps a deserted beach surrounded by clear water, so clear that it's illuminated by the sunlight.
"Love insane" is instead a description for piano and voice only (the only track graced by the magnificent voice of E. Fraser) spectral and melancholic. There are also moments of lightness and calm "Gunet, Hu, RE" that blend with the "more English" new age than the oriental one.
We are not talking about a This Mortal Coil project (which I adore) but rather about an Artistic and Sensual Monument, which manages, with its naked and simple sensuality of sounds, to become one of the most beautiful dreams for the listener. Dif Juz "Extractions" for anyone who hasn't bought it yet on CD was reissued on CD in 86.
Sorry for the brevity of words but I have to go!!!!
