THE REVIEW

Year 2007. The cheerful gang (so to speak) of Adrian Hates returns in style.

Three years ago, Diary Of Dreams left us with a precious gem. It was called "Nigredo", an album that, in my humble opinion, should be placed alongside the great masterpieces of music, especially the more Gothic ones. Now they offer us "Nekrolog 43" and it is another masterpiece, which, if it does not surpass the previous one, certainly equals it.

The sound of Diary Of Dreams hasn't changed much; here we find all the characteristics, decadent melodies, a crescendo of songs always very dramatic and epic, a very elegant use of electronics, all reviewed with an even more mature perspective, smoothing out those slight edges that perhaps remained.

The splendid voice of Adrian Hates is at its peak here, a low, warm, and enveloping tone. In this album, he tries to vary a bit more compared to the previous works, an example can be "Tears Of Joy" in which he attempts less Gothic vocalizations, succeeding greatly.

The album opens with the song that gives the title to the CD "Nekrolog 43", a somewhat challenging song perhaps, because it is sung in German, but once the first obstacle is overcome, you realize you are listening to a beautiful song. A slow and hypnotic tempo, Adrian's dark and sinister voice guides us through this first arrow shot from the Diary Of Dreams' bow. Next up is "The Plague", the first single released, where the rhythm becomes more sustained. The atmosphere of this song reminded me of certain darker Ramstein, although Diary Of Dreams have an elegance in weaving their melodic plots that Ramstein will never have.

The aforementioned "Tears Of Joy", is one of the most beautiful songs written by Adrian Hates, introduced by piano, gradually takes shape, Adrian's voice at its peak gives us a tear-jerking chorus. I would also like to mention "The Valley", a piano and voice ballad, the worthy closure of a truly beautiful album.

In 15 years of career, Diary Of Dreams can be said to have never missed a beat, they have pursued their path, maturing it and making it better each time. An album absolutely worth having.
