"And everything happening around me seems not to be happening here..."
Simple melodies, minimal arrangements, a guitar, sometimes a cello, a voice resembling a gentle breath of wind, these are the main elements of "Fantasia Ball" (Love Boat - 2003), the second album by Diana Darby.
This American singer, originally from Texas but residing in Nashville, doesn't need glittering effects to convey emotion. Her music is essential.
The album's beautiful cover, characterized by some brushstrokes of color on a white background, in its simplicity, magnificently ties in with the music of the album.
Simplicity, on the other hand, is a double-edged sword. If not well-calibrated, it can easily lead to banality and, consequently, boredom. But this doesn't seem to be the case with Diana Darby, because "Fantasia Ball" manages to be a very pleasant album, capable of creating seductive atmospheres, warm, melancholic, nocturnal, not sad, but above all, never boring.
The reassuring (If It Feels Good), bucolic (Summer), romantic (Fly Away) lyrics also deserve a mention.
Listening to her music, one perceives a general sensation of calm and lightness, which is pleasant to be enveloped by. In this aspect, Diana Darby can be likened to Thalia Zedeck.
However, she maintains her own fundamental originality, gifted to her by her beautiful voice, as intangible as a butterfly's wings and as light as a whisper, to be listened to alone, in the dark, under a warm blanket, eager to peer into one's heart and lighten it of burdens and bitterness.
