"The best of Diaframma is live!"
Federico Fiumani must have heard this countless times, as his concerts are exceptional moments of unity where he exudes all his charisma, his anger (januarioooooooo!!!!!!!), and his depth, sharing them with his audience: those who know all his verses, dive into the performance with him, and have never abandoned him, even today, after twenty-five years of performing up and down the peninsula.
This 1992 album encapsulates emotional moments of Diaframma's live experience along with unreleased tracks (both live and studio), some of which (Un giorno balordo, Manca l'acqua) would later reappear in future albums, reworked and rearranged differently.
Live And Unreleased traverses the entire journey of Diaframma (up to '92) with twenty-two tracks that document the group's great musical talents and showcase their evolution from the initial Dark Wave phase to the more rock and singer-songwriter phase.
The first four tracks (Impronte, Neogrigio, Siberia, Desiderio del nulla) are from a 1983 live performance and feature the band's first singer, Nicola Vannini (later Soul Hunter). These songs would later become part of the group's first album, "Siberia," (a genuine gem of Italian New Wave) but sung by the new vocalist, Miro Sassolini.
The setlist then continues with two unreleased studio tracks from '82 ("Sdoppiamento" and "In una finestra nera"), again with Vannini on vocals and characterized by a very Dark sound (perhaps the most Dark Italian songs I have ever heard).
With "Elena", the second part of the album opens, featuring Miro Sassolini on vocals.
This is followed by a cover (I believe improvised) of "Una carezza in un pugno", which introduces "L'altra parte di me", a very driven track, taken, along with "Delorenzo", the touching "Oceano", "Speranza", and "Ultimo Boulevard", from various concerts.
"Un uomo, non un ragazzo" is a studio unreleased track, probably left out of albums more by fate than by fault.
The following songs document a new phase of Diaframma and feature Federico Fiumani on vocals (already the group's author and guitarist), in the interpretation of the wonderful "Verde" and two older tracks, "Libra" and the epic "Amsterdam".
The last five tracks (Un giorno balordo, Manca l'acqua, Mio fratello, Effe, Epoca di sogno) are studio-recorded unreleased tracks.
It is archive material, for collectors, from one of the most important bands in our nation.
