LA RECENSIONE

Once upon a time there was a pop-rock band called "Dhamm"...

The story begins like this, and ends with the album "Disorient Express". What they accomplished in the Italian music scene is perhaps too closely tied to the start of their career, marked by Sanremo and radio-television programs that continuously featured them, much like "Le Vibrazioni" in the 90s. Obviously, this did not continue, as they decided to transform their musical style.

If you were looking for a more commercial sound like their previous two albums, you will be disappointed. Those who knew the earlier Dhamm will feel a bit "Disorient-ed" by the sharper sounds, the guitars in various tracks (such as "L'incubo di Alice" or "AAA visibilità cercasi") that are harder than one might expect from a band with a "pedigree" of a "boy-band".
At times, you can notice a certain experimentation thanks to digitized sounds, effected guitars, keyboards, psychedelic rock vocals... it is all delightfully dark and gloomy, as if reflecting sadness or anger... nothing to do with the catchy and cheerful tracks or the so-called "heartbreakers" like "Irene" (which won Sanremo giovani in 1995), "Ama", "E pace sarà".

Who knows why a band that could have continued on the path of (financial) success suddenly abandoned everything for a genre not appreciated by the masses, and in fact even unattainable since it has been out of catalog for a few years. "Strangely" the previous albums are not so difficult to recover... what the national discography wants to tell us sounds more or less like this: "Those who break through with catchy tracks and impress on first listen, stay in the game, everything else is not even worth calling up".

This album is worth 5 stars for the ability and courage of this band to change, for the content a more honest rating would be a 4. Worth listening to.
