For lovers of the hardest Brutal Death Metal, I am about to review this album by the great Devourment, who have been creators of truly violent Brutal Death Metal since 1997, so much so that it has been dubbed Ultra Brutal Death Metal.
"Molesting The Decapitated," the album I'm reviewing, is actually their first full-length released in 1999. Surely, the features that stand out the most in this album are the extremely guttural growl of the vocalist (who, if I'm not mistaken, switched to guitar in the latest CD "Butcher The Weak"), the drums that churn out blazing fast blast beats, low and buzzing guitar riffs, and a dark and cavernous bass, in the classic Brutal Death style.
It should be noted that Devourment, unlike other bands (such as the American Disgorge), don't get caught up much in technicalities, preferring the sonic massacre; in fact, despite the many slowdowns, the guitars play rather simple riffs, and the drums are more set on the "nail gun" method (the most used drum parts are the snare and cymbals). Nonetheless, the album flows very well in its 8 tracks, all quite similar to each other, as many might have guessed, the lyrics of this album all talk about interesting subjects like molesting a decapitated person (see title track), masses of vomit, devouring the damned, and other charming delights typical of the genre. The songs vary greatly from very fast parts to very slow and putrid ones, where the growl resonates violently in your ears. The production makes the sound of the guitars muddy and scratchy, while the bass doesn't find much space within the entire CD, and only plays an accompaniment role.
The band, excluding the demo and various EPs, has a rather sparse discography consisting of only 2 albums, but has always managed to maintain their style (truly very violent) and has become a source of inspiration as well as a symbol for many underground bands that populate and support Brutal Death Metal.
