LA RECENSIONE

There is a fair number of the musical offspring of the Allman Brothers Band. For example, Dickey Betts has been carrying along his son Duane for a while, a lanky young man who might not be a guitar phenomenon, but he manages. However, conversations filled with typically Italian sense of humor are not his forte (...)

Berry Duane Oakley is the anonymous son of such a father, a musician who gets by in some American club, even though he bears two significant names and a heavy surname. Then there's Michael Allman, who, if I recall correctly, is the oldest member of Gregg's large tribe. A strange blonde figure now past his forties who seems born from a peculiar cross between Gregg Allman and Axel Rudi Pell, though some vocal genes turned out well. Then there's Devon. Yes, Devon is different. Devon has an amazing guitar flair, a very beautiful voice, and is always part of the good Gregg's tribe. In his debut in 2006, along with his Honeytribe, he released this gem called "Torch." An album that's a pleasure to listen to, leaving a satisfied smile on your lips because every passage of the album is something you would like to hear, thanks to that atmosphere created by that music. An album divinely blended, full of atmospheres and influences: from pure Blues to the more Rock mood, from small Reggae shards to typical Jam Band sound, from Funky to gusts of Swing, up to outbursts that reach the verge of American-style Hard Rock.

Little gems like the instrumental "Mahalo," a long, irresistible, and warm Latin-flavored jam where the young man shows himself as a fine composer and arranger. The relaxed "511 Texas Avenue," where you seem to hear his Uncle Duane in "Little Martha," to a delightful version of "No Woman, No Cry" arranged in a very "Southern Style." An album that sounds beautiful, fresh and very captivating. Allman-like atmospheres with a touch of Black Crowes, all with a nice typical American sound hovering between ballads and groove. A must-have.
