The Profile

Desultory is a Swedish death metal band formed in Stockholm in 1989. Early releases for Metal Blade Records include Into Eternity (1993) and Bitterness (1994), followed by Swallow the Snake (1996). The group later reunited, issuing Counting Our Scars (2010) and Through Aching Aeons (2017).

Signed by Metal Blade (Brian Slagel). Into Eternity features technical songwriting with thrash influences; Klas Morberg on vocals and a noted guest contribution by Matti Kärki on "Depression." The review references guitarist Stefan Porge and highlights "The Chill Within" and the title track.

A single in-depth review situates Desultory’s Into Eternity within 1993 Swedish death metal, praising the title track and The Chill Within while criticizing much of the rest as derivative. It notes technical songwriting, thrash influences, Klas Morberg’s strong vocals, and Matti Kärki’s cameo on Depression. The piece argues the album’s peaks anticipate Gothenburg melodicism, but overall quality dips. It concludes the following albums added little before the band faded.
