Today I would like to bring to your attention an album that I believe was somewhat overlooked, namely "Thrash Anthems" by the Teutonic Destruction. The latter are famous for being the third member of the renowned German Thrash Metal trinity, which also includes Kreator and Sodom, and for producing unforgettable albums such as "Infernal Overkill" and "Eternal Devastation".
The album in question is a commemoration of the group's more than two-decade-long career. It features the band’s greatest hits from a "Best Of" period spanning from "Sentence Of Death", 1984, to "Cracked Brain", 1989/90, re-recorded with the modern technology available today in recording studios. Based on this, many might think it's the usual commercial maneuver that, taking advantage of the good period these three Germans are experiencing, aims to squeeze money from poor defenseless fans, but I believe that in this case, we finally have something different, and now I'll explain why: firstly, it should be noted that the restyling of the songs has been really well done and is minimally invasive, to understand, no upheavals like the remake of "Stormblast" by Dimmu Borgir (which I like anyway, but that's another story), in fact, each track has retained the malice and cheek typical of the '80s, which have been, however, enhanced by a cleaner sound and a more mature and devastating vocal performance by Schmier (his vitriolic voice is truly, along with Mike's riffs, the real trademark of Destruction).
The second strong point of this work is the addition of two new tracks: "Profanity" and "Deposition (Your Heads Will Roll)", which are so well blended with the old masterpieces of the German trio that it's hard to believe they were written in 2007.
In conclusion, an album that every fan of good Thrash Metal should at least try to listen to, because in a market so saturated with often useless and expensive record releases, it's reassuring to see that there's still a group eager to offer their admirers a well-done, honest work absolutely in line with their style and image.
P.S. If you manage to find the limited edition, in digipack, as a bonus track you'll find the legendary "Eternal Ban"!
